In this fourth novella in the story of the romantic relationship between FBI profiler, Logan Bennet, and serial killer Lana Meyer, the focus moves to the town where Lana's need for revenge started. Here the fast-paced story becomes more action packed and full of interesting twists and turns. The writing style is also much better suited to this third act. 4/5

A decent era crime novel, set in the Chicago syndicate in the late 70s and early 80s. The novel lacks some of the familiar feel of fictionalised real events / people, but the era chosen is very accurately depicted and told with the intimacy of a writer who lived in the era and partook in the event. The story is interesting enough but a little too familiar. 3.5/5

Ruby’s mother, Deena disappeared when Ruby was only four years old and while Deena and Lucas were fighting an ugly custody battle. Now living with her controlling father, Lucas, and his enabling mother, Ruby remembers almost nothing about her mother and is not permitted to ask any questions about her. Nessa is however as from the outset convinced that Lucas was responsible for her sister's disappearance. The novel utilises the dual timelines (some 10 years removed) exceptionally and the first person accounts of Ruby and Nessa are richly written and seamlessly integrated. 5/5
