A woman with a carefully created fake identity, that of "Southern girl next door", Evie Porter, has a mysterious job, where she is tasked by her mysterious powerful boss, solely known as Mr. Smith, to infiltrate the life of her mark, Ryan Sumner. It soon becomes apparent that someone is pulling at the frays of her carefully created identity and things escalate quickly, leaving Evie to find out what is going on and stay out of jail. A well-written medium-paced mystery focused on a secret crime organisation. Though the unfold is not a total surprise, the journey to get there makes the novel entertaining and engaing. 4/5

"Murder in White" is a locked room murder mystery / whodunnit that set in a secluded hostel amidst the imposing Tatra Mountains of Poland. A blizzard of epic proportions cuts off the hostel from the outside world, trapping a group of nine strangers inside. Just as tensions begin to mount among the snowbound guests, a mysterious stranger arrives, seeking refuge from the storm. Shortly after this new arrival, a dead body is found on the top floor of the hostel, and it becomes clear that a murderer is among them. With no way to call for help, the remaining guests must unravel the secrets of their fellow travelers to identify the killer before another victim strikes. Jedliński balanced the psychological impact of the forced proximity of a murderer on the minds of the other guests and the over-the-top and irrational actions which follow from situations very well. A bit slow-moving and somewhat disjointed novel but a decent whodunnit. 3.5/5

Two young girls are the victims of a hellish attack connected to their defense attorney father. 28 years later a school shooting brings them back together as adult lawyers having lived very different lives. As always Slaughter brings us a plethora of, more often than not, visceral twists and turns. This novel is an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish and is not recommended for the squimish. 4/5
