Strangely this first Rebus book has a lot more depth and backstory to it than I expected. A book which should have received much more acclaim. Bravo maestro! 5/5

The first novel in a murder mystery trilogy set in a dystopian future London. The story centers around a disoriented man with amnesia, named Sherlock Holmes by a stranger who fished him out of the Thames rive, ie Watson.Together they try to solve the mystery of Holmes' identity while also being entangled in another puzzling case which started with an airliner crash over London. Very clever writing, with true to Connor Doyle atmosphere, which works very well in the dystopian future London. The mystery in this novel focuses around Holmes more than any murder and thus creates the setting for the series which will follow. 4/5

The Beast You Are by Paul Tremblay

"The Beast You Are" (yes Tremblay is a Big Business fan), contains a number of previously published short stories (mostly in lesser available publications) and one original novella, bearing the same title as the title of the main work. The novella is indeed the main drawcard and is written as a kind of "Watership Down" homage but written in Tremblay's unique eerie lamenting style. The short stories are extremely diverse and very unique and all tick the horror genre box perfectly. A must read for horror fans. 4/5

The House On Cold Hill by Peter James

The Harcourt family,  drawn by the allure of a country lifestyle,  moves into a secluded Georgian mansion and soon realize that their dream home, apart from being a money pit, harbours a dark secret. As strange occurrences and unsettling visions begin to plague them, the Harcourts must uncover the chilling truth behind Cold Hill's haunted past.  Unfortunately I read this first novel after the sequel and effectively rated the sequel higher than it actually deserved. The sequel is somewhat of a carbon copy of this novel but set in a slightly later time period featuring different families with different occupations, but the storyline remains exactly the same. The wiring style is however unique interesting and engaging.
